THE EAST COWETA HIGH SCHOOL BAND PROGRAM
The East Coweta High School Band Program consist of four concert ensembles, (Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Bands I and II, and Concert Band) in which the students are placed annually by audition. All bands consistently receive superior ratings at District Band Festival. In 2008, the Wind Ensemble was selected by Columbus State University's Schwob School of Music as one of three ensembles to participate in the "Honor Bands of Georgia" Clinic. In 2009, the Wind Ensemble won 1st in class and 2nd overall at the Festival Disney competition in Orlando, Florida and in 2010 and 2015 the Wind Ensemble was selected to perform as a guest ensemble at the University of Alabama High School Honor Band Clinic in Tuscaloosa. In 2011 the Wind Ensemble performed as a guest ensemble at the Southeastern United States HS Honor Band Clinic at Troy University in Troy, AL. The Wind Ensemble was also selected to perform at the 2012 Kennesaw State University Concert Band Invitational. In 2015 both the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Bands competed at Festival Disney in Orlando, Florida; both groups were 1st in class and the Wind Ensemble won the Golden Mickey for being the highest scoring band.
Students in the band have the option of participating in the all-volunteer marching band. The East Coweta Marching Indians have consistently received superior ratings, as well as many First in Class and Grand Champion awards. In 2010, the Marching Indians were a finalist and Class AAAA Champion at the Bands of America Regional at Jacksonville State University. In 2011, the Marching Indians were a finalist at the Bands of America Atlanta Super Regional at the Georgia Dome and in 2012, a finalist again at the Bands of America Jacksonville Regional. In 2013 the Marching Indians were a finalist and Class AAAA Champions at the 2013 Bands of America Regional at McEachern HS. This past year the Marching Indians were finalist at the 2014 Bands of America Jacksonville Regional and at the Lafayette Marching Classic in Fayetteville, Georgia. The Marching Indians have represented Georgia in numerous national and international parades. These parades include the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, The London New Year's Day Parade, the Waikiki Holiday Parade, the Rome Italy New Year's Day Parade, and the Hollywood Christmas Parade.
East Coweta band students also have the option of participating in the Jazz Band and they are also strongly encouraged to participate in a chamber ensemble during the school year. In January of 2009, 2012, and 2015 the Woodwind Quintet, Senior Saxophone Quartet and the Trumpet Choir were all given opportunities to perform as lobby groups at the Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference in Savannah, Georgia. Students also have the opportunity to participate in our Indoor Percussion Ensemble which competes on the GIPA and SAPA circuits.
In addition to the various accomplishments of the band program, the color guard program at East Coweta High School also has a tradition of excellence. As a member of SAPA (Southern Association of Performance Artists,) the East Coweta High School Cadet and Junior Varsity Winter Guards have been medalist for the past eight years, and the East Coweta High School Varsity Winter Guard has been a medalist for four of the past five years. Furthermore, the East Coweta High School Varsity Winter Guard has been a consistent WGI (Winter Guard International) Regional Finalist, a Semi-Finalist in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2014 and Finalist in 2015 for the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.
